Cityside
The city side of Station Island is to be redesigned. The Open Havenfront (Open Harbour Front) will be enlarged, the facilities for canal cruise companies will be renewed and there will be a new route over a new bridge for traffic.
Station building
Amsterdam Central Station is an important interchange with many international connections, all in one historic building. The station building needs to be modified so that it can continue to cope with the ever-growing passenger flows and meet the requirements of present-day travellers who pass through the station.
Bicycles
The Station Island Coordination supervises the number of bicycle racks on Station Island. If bicycle racks have to be removed for a building site, a search is made for a location for replacement racks.
IJ side
Station Island has been extended by 40 metres on the IJ side with the creation of a cofferdam. In the future, traffic will pass through underground tunnels, there will be a new station hall at street level (the IJ hall) and a bus station on the same level as the railway tracks.
North / South Line
A new metro line is being built between Buikslotermeerplein in Amsterdam-Noord and Amsterdam Zuid/WTC station: the North/South Line.
